How Zolra’s Co-Founder Matching Works
Zolra Intelligence, Zolra’s AI engine, uses a multi-signal matching algorithm to score co-founder compatibility from 0–100. Here’s what it evaluates:
- Skills complementarity (40% weight) — Are your skills different enough to cover company needs?
- Vision alignment (25%) — Based on your “Looking For”, bio, and startup description
- Stage fit (15%) — Are you both at the same commitment level?
- Location compatibility (10%) — Same city boosts score; remote-friendly preferences also factor in
- Activity signal (10%) — Active users get matched more (Zolra Intelligence deprioritises dormant profiles)
Step 1: Optimise Your Profile for Co-Founder Search
- Set “Looking For” to include “Co-founder”
- Write a bio that describes your startup idea or area of interest
- Add specific skills (not just “business” — say “B2B SaaS sales”, “React + Node.js”, “Product Design”)
- Fill in your team gaps — what roles are you looking for in a co-founder?
Step 2: Browse & Filter
Go to Founders → Co-Founder Match in the app. Use filters:
- Skills: Search for specific technical or business skills
- Stage: Match with people at the same stage (idea, MVP, traction)
- Location: Filter by city or “remote-friendly”
- Zolra Intelligence Score: Sort by match score to see highest-compatibility candidates first
Step 3: Send a Thoughtful Connection Request
Don’t send a generic “Hi, let’s connect.” Instead, use this template:
Hi [Name], I’m [Your Name], working on [your idea in one line]. I noticed your experience in [their skill/background] and think there’s strong complementarity with my [your skill]. Would you be open to a 20-minute call to explore if there’s a fit?
Step 4: The First Conversation
Cover these 5 questions in your first call:
- What problem are you most excited about solving?
- What’s your working style? (hours, remote/in-person, communication)
- What are you bringing to the table? (skills, network, capital)
- What’s your timeline? (full-time soon, or evenings/weekends first?)
- How do you envision splitting equity and responsibilities?
Step 5: Trial Period

Red Flags to Watch For
- They want equity but can’t define their contribution
- They’re idea-only with no willingness to execute
- They want to keep their full-time job indefinitely
- They have 3 other “startup ideas” they’re exploring simultaneously
- They’re not responsive during the trial period
